Are you sure it's epoxy? The original RennTech spoilers come with non-standard double sided tape, which were a creamy yellow colour and rubbery-gel-like,... maybe that got harden over time, became brittle and cracked,... so it looked like epoxy.

No, I've got the first Renntech spoiler ever made for our cars (the 3 piece vs the one piece), which came with no provided adhesive or tape on it. My car was the guinea pig for the rest of the spoilers to follow; took them three times to get the piece material to the point where they wouldn't explode during the paint process.

Epoxy generally don't offer any flex once it hardens. Since spoiler and that trunk trim are made of different material with different property,... they'll expand and contract differently as temperature changes,... thus, over time the epoxy will crack. Use double sided tape especially good quality like 3M VHB double sided tape,... it offers more flex and is super strong.

and then fish it into the body....

but what do I know?

Need some opinions here.
I am SO GLAD I found this post... it inspires me to replace my hatch, which LOOKS fine, but the antenna amplifier is not working. C230 Sport Coup, when you bought your replacement hatch, were you concerned that this common problem would be bothering you with the new hatch, or did you have it tested somehow prior to purchase? If so, how??

Bosco,
Ha, no I was crapping a brick, that when it all went together, there would be a problem.

Pulling the wires through the 'snorkel' was a little traumatic, put strain on the wires etc.

If I had a problem I wouldn't know if the antenna was bad, or if I had f'd up the wiring harness.

Imagine my joy, when I finally connected everything, and checked each individual thing, license plate lights CHECK! Brake light CHECK! Hatch release CHECK! and found them all to work. Key fob CHECK!!!!!!

1st standing close the car and seeing the locks work, which they didn't at all with the hatch removed. Then standing 20 feet away and YES, still worked.
THEN buying new batteries for the fob and having it work a block away!!!
YES!!!

The one thing I will say is that the hatch I got did not have tint on it,
but it did appear to have been sitting outside had dirt on the inside of the window.
But since it wasn't powered up and there was no moisture when I installed, I guess I was ok.
BTW- I salvaged the antenna amp from my old window, no idea if that could help you in any way,.
I do want to get the new window tinted.
I'll make the sure the guy does it with the hatch down, and just to be sure, I haven't installed the trim pieces yet, and I'll disconnect the power to antenna while he works on it, and let it dry.
Guess I'll have to connect the switch inside the hatch so he can get out !

Well, now I guess I'll call and find out how much to re-tint the rear.

Was just re-reading this thread...one of my better threads. Wanted to see that pic with the plastic on the window etc.

Messing with the letters of the old hatch and sexy shoes- Priceless.
Anyway, still never re-attached the trim pieces since I never got the
defrost connection re-attached.
I tried the glue from Radio shack but it didn't work very well.
The connection got very hot and then the connector fell off.
I was just glad it didn't damage the glass...it burned my fingers when I touched it!

Hadn't tried the stuff from O-reily's yet. I think it's like an epoxy so if it doesn't work I'm screwed!
The connector is metal and connects attaches to the window at a point where it's like a ceramic material which I assume is conductive.

Fortunately the winter hasn't been too bad* and not too many times the window was fogged.
Nice to not have water leaking in.
Still haven't reattached the Renntech 'style' wing.
It looked kinda good without it....debating still on it's reattachment.

Still keeping the zero....
My car looks pretty stock...well if it was a 2005 it would be almost as far as looks go.

Advise on the connection for the defrost is appreciated.

(*bad is relative since we're now officially in a drought!)

Most recent maint. items, replaced exhaust manifold gasket, I can actually run the AC and heat while standing still and not choke on exhaust! Imagine it!
