Exhaust cutout on Coupe

Has anyone ever thought about putting an exhaust cutout on the coupe. they provide a nice hp increase on turbo and sc'd cars.

If you are not familiar with a cutout this is what it does.

It provides a loud less restrictive exhaust but you guessed it, not legal.

These are popular on drag racing street cars. Simply unbolt the blocking plate on the cutout when you get to the track (where noise isn't a problem). The po-lice will be all over you if you tried to run this on the street (it's super loud).

Yeah i had one on my Z28 but rigged it so i could open/close it from inside the car. It was sweet it gave me a dyno proven 17 hp at the wheels. that was before i put the supercharger on it. It was VERY loud though.

It is also dangerous if not done right. If cold air gets sucked back up the uncorked exhaust you can warp a valve or worse. There is also the problem of noxious gases entering the car if the exhaust isn't piped out to the side. I'd leave it on the track and find a safer way on the street.

yeah itse dangerous, but i had the cutout placed right at the catalytic converter so the level of danger was greatly reduced. I had a metal cord that was under my seat that i could either pull up or push down to close or open it. On the highway at cruising speeds you could not tell a difference in the sound but you could see a big difference in fual economy. It went up about 2 mpg with tht e cutout open. It would maybe put 5-10 hp on a c230.
