P0128 CEL?? 2006 C230
Got a 2006 C230 SPORT with about 81K miles on it. The CEL just came on. Had it checked by Auto Zone and they gave me p0128 and said it has something to do with my coolant or t-stat. I did notice my temp gauge goes a little past 80 (the midpoint) in traffic and have known that in most cars that is an issue. Posted a picture of where it gets to when it sits in traffic for a while. It usually runs a little over the 60 mark when it is in constant motion such as the highway which is where I mostly drive it. The temperature outside is at about 55 Fahrenheit. Please let me know what you guys think I should do next. I am fairly new to these cars.

85C to 90C is normal. 60C is way too cool. Mine will hover around 80C and eventually find it's way to 85C or so. Your thermostat might be on the way out so change it anyway. Japanese and American cars the gauge is calibrated differently as opposed to German cars. For Japanese and American it will show exactly in the middle but on German cars it goes beyond the half way point but it doesn't mean it's overheating.

If it just got cold all of a sudden, you may just try clearing the code and seeing if it turns on again instead of dropping a lot of money changing your t-stat. Mine threw the code when we had a cold snap here, I got it cleared, and it hasn't turned back on since. Temps are fine.

Watch your temperature. It should run just under/on 90 deg C. If it runs cooler (Benz thermostats fail open) then change it. Cold running accelerates wear & increases fuel consumption.

So would everyone agree this is a normal temperature? I do plan on changing the t-stat, thought. To prevent any further issues. Any know where I could buy a reliable one? Is it hard to change them?

Very easy to change. See Wiki for details. Get a decent thermostat for your car from RMeuropean or similar.
