Radio problem.turns off/cuts in and out???

Radio problem.turns off/cuts in and out???
this been happening for a couple of weeks.
Sometimes 5mins into my drive or somethines 30mins into my drive.
My radio keeps on turning off completly or sometimes sound cuts off for 3 secs and sound turns back on.
When it turns off. i hit the power button and the radio works again.
What could be the problem? bad radio? bad battery or altenator or maybe fuse.
is there a way to reset the radio?
Any Ideas of what should i try?

Try re-seating the cables on the unit - check the DIY guide to remove the HU.
some MBs came with premium sound - so I would check to see if you have an amp at the back of the car and check that the amp is not failing.

i will try refitting the cables but pretty sure not the problem cause if a cable would be lose the radio trip out if i hit a huge bump. but the radio even turns off on stop lights and in traffic. correct or i mit be wrong?
i will check the amp.dont know if i have one. but if the amp was bad, would the radio turn off completly?
also if you unplug the radio. does the radio lock itself?

it could be a bad HU. When I removed my head unit a long time ago (same year car) I did not have to do anything - it was plug and play deal. pictures of your head unit. where are you located?
