Oil leak problem!

Hi guys! I recently got 06 c230 v6, and I got an oil leak. Took it to the shop and mechanic said it's gonna be a hassle to fix it because it's hard to reach to fix and he'll have to take the transmission off (or something like that) to be able to reach and fix the leak. He priced it around 800. Now, I don't really know if all that is needed since I don't know much about these cars. Is this really a big thing to do and all this work is a must? Thanks!

Sounds as if it could be the engine rear main oil seal.

You should get the full details from the mechanic of what the problem is then someone may be able to give you some advice on the quote.

Another quote from a MB mechanic would be wise also.

Good luck.

I had a massive oil leak incident earlier this year on my '06 C230. The car lost about 2 quarts in just 30 mile drive. Oil was every where on the right side (passenger) of the engine block top to bottom, all over the plastic drip pan under the engine, big puddle of oil under the car as well. Oh, there was white smoke coming out under the hood when driving. And dash displayed a warning saying "Go to nearest service station, oil level low, etc." Well, that was what my wife said... The engine oil change was just done the day before that. I thought something got damaged or went wrong BIG time. I even thought of serious engine damage due to lack of lubrication. My wife called me from her work and I told her not to drive the car. Told her to leave the car there so that I would come and check it out. Amazingly it was the oil fill cap on the engine that was not tight! But it wasn't noticebly loose either. Maybe I tightened it only about 1/16th turn (guessing, it's been a few months) not more that 1/8th turn for sure. Added 2 quarts of oil to bring the oil level back to where it should be and drove it home. Drove about 10,000 miles since and no more oil leak and no engine damage, of course.

Check simple stuff first by yourself before you pay someone big bucks.

OP stated mechanic looked at the car and the mechanic's diagnosis indicated that difficult job (likely rear main seal). Hence, obvious things are already checked.

Replacement of rear main seal would require disconnecting the trans. So, yea it's not an easy fix.

Yes, I read it.

And let's hope so.
