getting a tight seal on ebay sidemarkers - hairdryer or sealant or both?

Okay, maybe I knocked off one of the plastic ridges on the driver side slot when installing a clear front sidemarker b/c the driver-side sidemarker fits kinda loose compared to the passenger side one which snapped right in. I've read to put a heat gun or blow dryer up to it- how do I position the sidemarker while doing this or do I need to? How about a sealant? Any rec's so I don't end up with water in the sidemarker when it rains.
