More Audio Questions

I have spent the last hour or so looking for this info.....

1. What is the most current Comand system that will work in my 02 C230?

2. What are the most current CD Nav disks available for the 02 style system? I am not sure a Nav system with maps from 12 years ago is a good idea.

As always thanks in advance

Bob

Google Maps in your phone attached to the dash is going to be better than any COMAND system. It is always up to date, and has become quite valuable and easy to use.

That is what I am starting to think...old tech or rewire the car...not a lot of good choices. I guess my Garmin on the windshield will work.

Thanks

Re-wiring the car is actually a fun job, or at least I had fun doing it on mine. It's just some speaker wire and making a wiring harness and there are many how to's online. I would ditch the idea of the comand, and get a new double din. I installed a Pioneer in my car and with the app mode it displays my maps on the screen and is great. The new amp in the Pioneer deck made the factory speakers sound so much better, and I added in a sub in the trunk. You could probably do all of this for about the same price as getting an outdated comand unit.

I was intimidated by the process at first, but once I started taking my car apart I got excited and couldn't wait to hear the difference. I absolutely love listening to music again and having the maps is bluetooth really make me want to keep the car another 10 years; it's like new (at least on the electronics side). There is even an adaptor now to hook the new head units into the Merc steering wheel controls.

If you decide to do any upgrades and have questions, let me know! I learned a lot from trial and error, but I think I have most of the audio stuff down now.

Used Comand are going for $150 or so on Ebay.

I replaced the cassette radio in my wife's C-240 Wagon long ago with a Comand and it was very easy using instructions from this site.

You might have to do some searching to find them.

I am ready to replace her Comand with a new China made all-in-one because we need the bluetooth function. If you're still wanting Comand PM me. We have the 2004 maps. There are probably newer sets though.

150? Is it for pre-facelifted ones?
Because I think you can't find 2005+ Comand cheaper than 700...

I just searched and found a pre face lift for $199 obo. But on ebay nav disks are $85 each. I dont understand how obsolete tech is so expensive.

it has to be from a 2003 not newer, because the cars went from db2 to most, but very easy do thee are plug harness's available and it is plug and play, you will need a gps antenna and you can ad aux input as well.

as far as i know MOST and db2 are not compatible. you would have to re-wire car to go from db2 to most. if you look at junk yards you might be able to get a cheaper command like i did. but as others have posted, the command is inferior to the google maps in any modern phone.
