Error Code P0102

Hi Guys

I desperately need some advice on this problem.

Last week while driving the car started sputtering/jerking. I pulled over and saw the CEL was on. The code was P0102 (MAF circuit low input).

I disconnected the MAF and started up the car- it was fine. The idle and acceleration was normal. So I drove home.

When I got home I connected the MAF the problem resurfaced and the CEL came on. The codes I got this time was P0102 as well as P0113, so I cleared the codes.

I disconnected the MAF and started up the car-(this is where I need the advice). The car idled fine but as soon as I pressed on the accelerator it spluttered and it couldn’t rev any further then 2000rpm . The car just splutters and switches off.

The CEL came on with the code P0102. Could it really be the MAF that needs replacement? Seeing as though with or without the MAF I cannot get any acceleration? I don’t want to spend close to $520 on a new MAF if that’s not the problem

Ever since then, the only code that comes up is P0102.

I drive a 2001 C180 with the M111 engine (non compressor).

It looks as though that MAF is toast.

Also check your fuel pressure. When last did you replace the fuel filter?

Thanks Glyn. I replaced the MAF today.. now im getting error code P0113(intake air temperature circuit high input). Is there a separate sensor for this?

The original error code P0102 no longer shows up.

I replaced the fuel filter about 4 months ago.

2 weeks ago i sent the car for a service. I decided to check the oil level today and the oil is pass the max mark on the dipstick (way pass the max mark).

I know this is unhealthy for the car-but can this be the cause for the issues im experiencing?

Sometimes these cars would just refuse to start if there's too much oil. Even if isn't directly causing your issue, you should drain some oil. Too much could create unnecessary oil pressure.

If that's correct, there must be a sensor to tell the ECU about overfilling.
Which sensor monitors the oil overfill?

Correct the oil level.

Drive the car for a couple of 100Km's to let everything auto calibrate then cancel codes & see what comes back. The IAT sensor is built into the MAF.

High oil level has nothing to do with your issue.

Thanks for all the responses.

I forgot to mention that even after changing the MAF, the car is not driveable.

Error code p0113 keeps coming up. The car idles perfectly now but as soon as i press on the gas it splutters. This happens with or without the MAF connected.

I'm trying my best to diagnose the problem myself as some of these mechanics are charging exorbitant call out fees.

Just a thought. Is the MAF the correct MB one for your car?

Did you check the oil again? Are you making oil? coolant leak ? Did you check the coolant level and are sure the intake temp isn't too high? Might want to check the cables and connectors especially at the processor. Corrosion can cause abnormal reading.

Sounds like an aftermarket maf sensor was installed. Or rarely, even a brand new oem maf can be bad, maybe dropped during shipping, etc
