Hi guys I went with totalling it, everyone told me that it would just never be the same. Also the engine compartment was compromised so even that wouldn't be the same. Looking at 328xi coupe or w204 sedans

2008 W204 with 3.0 L and a 6 speed is very nice!
My friend has one and I was always Jealous.
He only paid I think 32K which is about what I paid for my coupe,
and he had BT, folding mirrors, big front brakes and other niceties
all included!

Aww, man. I would have kept it to be honest. From what I can tell, it just looked like you needed a new radiator, hood, headlights, bumper, and grille.
And yes, as C230 said, the manuals in the W204's onward are actually quite nice. Much better than their W203 counterparts. Though finding a W204 with a manual is not that easy to find, but they shouldn't cost any more than the automatic variants as most people looking to buy a Mercedes don't exactly look at manual variants! Good luck.

If you go for an early W204, check the VIN to see if it was affected by the balance shaft issue - lots of info on this on the W204 sub forum. Suffice it to say that it's a very costly repair if the balance shaft needs to be replaced.
If you want to stick with a sedan, my vote is a BMW 335. They can be tuned to over 400hp which equals grin from ear to ear.

The 335i is a total beast but that N54 has it's quirks. Plenty of DIYs on how to clean the carbon deposits on those motors and every known problem is well documented so if you want a beast and are willing to take on a few more repairs then the 335i is great.

My dad has a 6MT 2009 C300 and the manual is absolute crap. I used to be a proponent of bad manual transmissions over good automatics (like the 7G) but I really had no idea just how poor it is. And to get out of my Si and into the Mercedes, the difference is.. hysterical.

What Matt said (Hi Matt!).
My '05 C230 is a 6MT and while it is tolerable, compared to most others I've had, it is pretty poor (and to think it was improved for the C230 facelift!). It is heavy and not very smooth to shift. It is very difficult to match revs when downshifting - especially because the pedals are poorly placed.
Unless you are very motivated to change your own gears and you are a rabid MB fan, I would either get the auto or some other car.
