Suspension squeak

Trying to track down a squeak in my rear suspension. I replaced struts and a wheel bearing... but still when going over speedbumps, dips or turning with any speed - especially in colder weather - i hear only what i can describe as a rubber squeaking noise.. kinda like what you'd hear if you rubbed two balloons together only a little high pitched.

I'm thinking sway bar links, or perhaps the sway bar itself.

Any ideas?

actually it sounds more like it's coming from the rear left. For instance, if i go over a speed bump and the right side only is compressed - no sound. Seems to be left side only.

I crawled under there last night and the sway bar has some rust on it - but i'd say it's still structurally intact, the links and their bushing look ok. But that doesn't mean they arent old.

I have a whole thread about this, but Im pretty sure its your rear sway bar bushings. This noise plagued me forever. Try removing your rear sway bar bushings + sway bar, then going for a drive around the block. If the noise goes away, you know its one of those two. Good luck.

Does anyone happen to have the part number for the rear sway bushings? Spent several hours this morning searching forums and the internet to find it. I've found the part number for every rear sway bushing it seems but the one that will fit my car. I have an 03 C320 (non-sport, non-4matic).

I got similar squeak in my rear suspension. However it has gone when the weather gets warm. I got that issue if weather temp is around -15-20 for couple of days. But no issue on warm days!

OMG!! I've been chasing an intermittent squeak for the past 2 months. It comes and goes so I'm assuming it has to be some sort of bushing. It seems to be coming from the right rear part of the suspension and happens when I go over speed bumps and humps and dips on the road. Squeaky suspensions seem to be commonplace for MB cars because of the liberal use of rubber and poly bushings.

I'm going to have a mechanic check it out when I take the car in for a PS fluid change later this week. Don't want to do the work myself because of how dirty the car is because of the damn weather.

Khan28, please share with us if you get a solution from mechanic. Meanwhile I am in Canada, as well. Where do you use to get parts when necessary?

Good luck.

Alright so I went to see Matthew at Workshop MB in Rexdale and all I have to say is that he is the most honest mechanic I've ever spoken to. It's a little dinky shop but on the bright side he has no expensive overhead. He told me I don't need a PS fluid and seal change as the fluid looks fine and is at the correct level. He said if I continue getting my little minor PS issue he would inspect the rear SAM unit.

As for the squeak he diagnosed it as control arm bushings gone bad and they're replaced in pairs. $20 per bushing and about a 90 minute job. I'll go back in about 2 weeks to have the work done on the bushings.

I'll order my parts online from Pelican. I buy my filters from Part Source since they have the Mann brand. I get my oil from NV Euro Motorworks.

Thank you for sharing with us. I am glad that you found an honest mechanic. In these days it is hard to find. I also use Pelican for most of my part needs.

ATXJosh, are you still looking for assistance? Let me know and I'll provide product info for you.

In the meantime, we've put together a great Rear Sway Bar Tech Article for your review if you'd like to see how to replace the bushings.
