alpine CD Changer

Are all alpine CD changer works in 2002 C-Class or only a certain models work.

My friend has a used Alpine Changer and willing to sell it to me cheap, and I just want to make sure if that thing will work in my car. I believe that thing is at least 3 years old, but still up and runnin.

I know I will need an adapter for it, but besides that do you guys think it will work ?

No, it will not work. The only ones that work are the Alpine. sold by MB, or a certain model Becker. MB uses D2B as its fiber optic communications protocol. D2B is not used by any aftermarket CD changers.

Actually some of the newer Alpine CD Chagers do have a optical connection. However, this connection is NOT compatible with the Mercedes D2B connection or spec. Therefore, you still need a Mercedes branded Alpine Changer or compatible Becker unit.

The Becker changer is the Becker Silverstone 2662. It appears to be more expensive than the Alpine. I couldn't find a price in US$, but on a British the Becker is 399 ($567).

When I priced the Becker it was about $25-50 cheaper than the MB unit. If you look around you should be able to get it for about $350. The problem is that you have to custom fabricate the bracket and it may not fit in the glove box. The Alpine will work if it's an RF type that plugs into the antenna. Of course you'll have to also make a bracket, it may not fit in your glove box and you'll have to mount a remote control somewhere. It probably won't sound as good and take up an FM preset.
