Lightbulb Post MAF - O2 Sensor Fuel Consumption

Hello,

I was wondering how the MAF and O2 sensors can affect my car's fuel consumption. I get almost 350Km on 35liters of unleaded 98 petrol. My car is a 2005 C180K sport edition and has 118K (km) on the clock and i have never changed those sensors. Is it something that has to be checked during services or just stay there until an error comes up?

Thanks

It stands to reason that your sensors influence the mix of air and fuel in the engine. So , a bad sensor can lead to ineficient burning of the fuel, so more fuel consumption.

I also believe that they come up on the STAR tester if they are faulty. A good mechanic can tell from experience if the air intake is not normal.

Check for stored codes. Fuel consumption is directly related to usage patterns & driving style. If you do a lot of short trips open loop enriched then the consumption is normal.

If MAF or O2 sensors are faulty you will be storing fuel trim codes etc.
