Top End for C230K?

Does anybody happen to know the top end of a C230K Coupe? Just curious.

If V-max is removed, top speed is 149 mph.

I think that vmax is set at 130mph because the car comes stock with H rated tires with a vmax of 130. This limits MB's liability for giving you a car that can go faster than is tires can. It would be nice for C7 cars to not be limited to 130, but no, MB does not give them any extra top speed. Either Z or V rated tires can go 149mph the other is rated by the manufacturer, I forget which is which. My car has seen 120mph and it is still rock stable, 149 seems doable w/o vmax limiting. Lynn, is 149 in 5th or 6th gear?

149 in 5th would probably be about 7500RPM! If it can do 149(which sounds about right) it is bored out to redline in 6th- no question. Source for the following: R&T's Jan 02 write up on the coupe.

1st- 30@6000
2nd-51@6000
3rd-78@6000
4th-106@6000
5th-130@5950
6th-130@5100

So if you consider that 3 grand is ~80 in 6th and 5 grand is ~125, that means (unscientifically) that 1k = 22.5MPH so adding 900RPM to R&T's data gives you 150.

Anyone else feel that 1st and 2nd seem a bit too low for this engine that is not short of torque?

I guess what's kind of funny about a 6-speed gear box, is that in reality it's supposed to give you good gearing over a wide range of speeds. However, the supercharged M111 motor in the C230 provides good torque and power throughout its rev range, somewhat eliminating the need for a 6-speed box with such closely spaced ratios.

Cheers, BT

No. 1st and 2nd are great "granny gears" for crawling in slow traffic.

Anybody that regularly flirts with 130 mph had better have their affairs in order. If you don't turn your vehicle into scrap metal you will surely be having some serious jail time.

I do agree that the 1st gear ratio is kinda too low...

Pardon the newbie ignorance, but what's vmax, and how do you remove it?

Vmax is pretty much the speed limiter. It may do other things but mostly thats all it does. as far as i know

Actually, vmax is the maximum velocity (v) that the car can travel at. This is a standard physics term. "max" is usually written as a subsrcipt, but i would not expect anybody to mess with the html just to do that.

what people above are saying is that the vmax of the c coupe is 149, however the speed governer limits the speed to 130.

Viper, i must have some serious issues. I took mine to 130 but it was only for a second. I just wanted to see what wouuld happen. All that happens is that you're going reeeeeeeeeeealy fast and the gas feed turn off thus limiting your velocity.

It requires reprogramming of the ECU to get rid of Vmax limiting. In other words , forget about it!

Vmax

The C Class (C32 excepted) has a feature known as Speedtronic, which allows the driver, acting through the onboard menu system, to establish Vmax for the car through the software. This setting can be altered at any time, presumably requiring a password to access the function. It's a great feature if junior's taking the car out - set it at 110 km/h!

I am wondering if the North American versions of the C have used the Speedtronic function to establish Vmax, and the only difference is that our manuals over don't tell you how to alter the Vmax setting.

Perhaps this is not likely, by it could be possible. Maybe what we need is a scan of the portion of the British market owners manual that deals with using Speedtronic.
