The Elusive In Dash CD
The 6021 has the illumination that matches the original tape-only unit that came with the car, the audio10 seems to have a reflective LCD rather than a transmissive one.
The sound is a LOT better than the original, even with the stock speakers. THe bass, treble, fader and balance settings are remembered for each preset (AM/FM) as well as for the CD.
I will post more pictures shortly.
Attached is a pic of the MFD displaying an RDS station.
BTW, the BE6021 was made in Germany, the stock unit was made in Japan - probably an Alpine.
According to Soundlabs in Australia, it will NOT work with the glovebox changer.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
I am not originally from Dallas (or the USA), but have lived here for 3 years.
I am still astounded that the most technologically advanced country on the planet still uses fahrenheit, AM/PM and a measurement system based on the sizes of an English king's body parts!
The car is used primarily by my wife, and she was born after the imperial system was abolished in our country, and has almost no concept of pounds, ounces, etc. I was 5 years old when we switched, so I still am able to use both.
Cheers
Raymond
He promised a phone call sometime today.
I can't wait to get mine. It will add so much to the car for me. I play alot of cd's that only have 1 or 2 songs that I like so indash is much better for me.
One question have you noticed any sound quality differences like tinny as buellwinkle ask?
Thanks again
Rick
Benzomontery,
Noticed your avatar, do ride a Jesse James chopper?
I think it sounds a LOT better than the original "tape only" unit, even on FM.
The bass and treble controls seem more effective in my audible range than the stock unit's did. Even with the stock speakers, it sounds more like a system should, and I could crank it pretty load without the speakers freaking out.
I will test the tele-aid system soon, and report back what happens - on the stock radio it showed "SOS" or "Service Call" when you used it.
A big plus is the RDS function, especially if you're in a mountainous area with multiple transmitters for the same station - RDS will automatically tune in the correct transmitter as you drive around.
Good luck
PS: I installed it with the help of the instructions posted on this forum some time ago. THere is one step missing in the instructions, though, and that is that you have to pull out the gear shift trim (I have an auto), lift out the aluminium trim on the horizontal part of the console, to release the clips that hold the ashtray assembly in place. The latches that hold the aluminium fascia around the radio and AC controls are then exposed, and can be popped with your fingers.

...
- MB should ship the cars with this unit in the first place. Why are they behind even US carmakers?! Now I already got the glovebox-6-pack. Rats...
I was wondering the same thing. I realize this is off topic but, have you seen the Discover Channel shows on Jesse James? They have done two that are really good. In the second one, he builds a bike for Shaq that is pretty wild.
I am going to be in Long Beach next week so I am going to try to get one of the shirts.
