Hi

I owe 1997 C230, car was running grate, just today i tried to start it it starts and immediately shuts off. Reeds P0100 and P1580 codes. I replaced mass air flow sensors few months back. I think it is not the problem since the old one even when i disconnected it car was still running. Poorly but it was still working. Cleaning throttle body didn't help. The car does not respond to throttle at all. How can i check if it is the throttle body not working or it is the sensor that controls it. Thanks for any help.

Where did you buy the Mass air flow sensor from? Was it from ebay? There are fake MAFs being sold online that don't work and make it worse. Do you have your old one? Put it back and if it runs better then you know it's you maf. How about without the MAF does the throttle respond? I have a feeling it's a knockoff MAF or maybe a bad MAF.

The code does sound like it's your MAF.

I got mass air flow sensor at advance auto parts. I got the more expensive one too. With the old one even when it was disconnected the car would still run. Now it does't make any difference connected or not. The throttle flapper does react on the acceleration. It does stop half way not like on my fathers in law opens fully. I checked on 98 c280 when flapper fully closed the car still idles mine doesn't. I notice that after i cleaned the throttle body with the throttle body cleaner, car after first start was running for about 5 second. It was probably the cleaner that makes me thinking the car doesn't get gas.

How long ago did you purchase it? What's their warranty policy? If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for it? Don't go with aftermarket or "OE Quality". Get Bosch MAF's and remember Bosch does not sell just the insert. It's the whole unit. Make sure it's a real Bosch.

You can get one for 30 bucks but these are cheap sensors probably will work for a month (if it does)

It costed over $200. One year limited as always. Question is is it possible that the maf couses that issiue since earlier even when it was disconected car was still runing. I do not mind to buy anotherone as long as it will help. Is it opsible i can reset codes without computer to see if after disconecting the maf it would at least idle

There is no real way to reset the code without a tool. Will advanced auto parts honor your warranty? It was few months back when you bought it right? Try to get it replaced under warranty.
Can you borrow a code scanner from someone? Clear the code and see if it starts.

I will try to contact them tooday to see about waranty i live qin west palm beach, fl i have no acces to a code reader,*advance auto parts will probably not reset it ( company policie) even if I would have to bring the car to them.

I hope you get it replaced free of charge.

If push comes to shove just buy a scanner, clear the code and then return it. Any Canbus scanner will do.

Just wantnto leave an update on my car. It was MAS. For everyone out there buy only original bosh MAS. I got one for more mone from advance auto parts and it craped out after a year. Thanks for all help!
