6 CD changer installation

Hi fellows,
How to get the factory 6 CD changer (for the glove box) installed.
Is it plug & play, meaning, are all the wires already there?
Any instructions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Robert

Plug and play? Sorta. You have to remove the radio HU and most of the console to access the necessary cables. You have to have an additional FO cable for some W203s (as with mine). I have been told you need a dealer to reset system in order to avoid error messages (mine didn't).

Otherwise, yes. Took me less than an hour.

there's a old thread around here on how to install the cd changer step by step. Took me about an hour or so to install the changer. Oh and FO means Fiber optic cable.

Awesome info and pics in those threads.

One question....which cars need the additional FO cable?

Is the changer install the same with the BOSE system?

(I have an 02 c320 sportwagon and picked up a mc3010 off ebay)

The installation is slightly different with Bose, since the Bose amp uses the fiber loop too. The easiest installation is in a car with no other items on the loop. There is a specific order in which the items must be on the loop. The cd changer is alway the last thing.

I think the Bose should be just before the changer on the loop. Connect the out from the Bose to the in on the changer, and the out on the changer to the in on the headunit.

Where is the FO out for the bose then? Up by the HU or back in the hatch with the bose amp?

Update...
I took a look at the bose. There is an orange duplex optic cable plugged into the amp in the back labelled 'sound 2'.

There is a second, loose capped optic cable labelled 'sound 1'.

I guess according to Lynn, I would put the 'sound 1' cable into the bose amp, and cap the other one. There should be a 'sound 2' cable up at the head unit for the changer (conjecture on my part).

The duplex cable should have one side as the in for the amp and the other side as the out. If you have no other items in the fiber loop, both sides of the duplex cable will plug into the rear of the head unit. If your have Teleaid, Telephone or VR the in side of the duplex cable comes from the next item upstream on the loop.

Isn't the teleaid built into the HU?

No. If I had it in my coupe, it would be in the back near the Bose bass module.

Orange Cable already in Glove!!

Hello everyone,

I had read number of times on how to install the CD changer. My question is... that after I have ordered the CD player and the fiber optic cable, I have noticed that the same part number fiber optic cable is ALREADY in the glove box sticking out of the hole along with the power cable. (I bought a used C320). But no CD changer. Does this mean that it had a CD changer??

Do I have pull out the head unit still to install the CD changer? Also the fiber cable is a loop with one input only with the metallic part where the loop is... What do I do??

It certainly sounds like the prior owner had one. Take a picture and post it and someone can let you know for sure. You may still have to remove the COMAND if the fiber optic loop was disconnected behind the HU. But if you are able to plug in both fiber optic and power and it works fine you can save yourself the hassle of removing the interior of your car!
