Car starts but no electronics

Hey guys.

I am experiencing a weird issue, the car starts fine but no electric windows, the dash lights up but only after a few attempts. Sometimes when I turn the key it does not even crank.

Any info or ideas you guys can share will be much appreciated.

Warm regards

Stephan

I'd check the battery and alternator. These cars are very sensitive to the correct voltage.

Hey VVF, when putting in a new EIS do you need to do any programming? As there is a donor car that I am busing buying parts every month.

And the problem is mostly there when it is cold.

Thx for the help guys.

I believe you do have to program the EIS.
You need to wait for Moviela or Glyn to give you the definitive answer though

You cannot use a donor EIS. It is locked to the VIN of the vehicle it originates in. You must buy new from dealer.

Hey guys, I managed to fix the issue at hand.

It was never the EIS, I opened the key and when taking out the computer board on the key in the front where the Infra Red module is, was full of wool and dust.

Cleaned the key put a new cover on and it worked like a charm

Warm Regards

Stephan

Wow, how did it manage to get inside the key?
Do you have an old key with cracked buttons?

Hi VVF

Apologies for the daft explanation.

Yes the buttons on the old key fob had holes where you push the buttons to lock and unlock the car.

Warm Regards

Nice, what a relief one feels when one finds out that the problem that seemingly demanded bug bucks turns out to be a minor thing!

Just resurrecting this since I've completely disassembled the key and still have the same problem. 2004 C230K 6speed manual. Most of the time the first start in the morning, click through key positions 1 and 2 and everything works fine, all electrics work as usual, turn to start and the car starts up fine but everything dies but the motor is running. It's as if the key is just in the ignition, not turned to any position. No power anything. Engine runs fine. I've searched through many threads only to come up with no actual solutions to the problem, the thread just dies. I've read it could be battery/alternator/key related. I swapped out batteries yesterday. Runs at 13.6v ish at idle, 14.4v underway. Most of the time after the car has been running for a while the key will work fine, which seems like a low voltage problem, but both batteries are at 12.7v at rest. I'll probably be ordering a new key at the end of the week. I just want to post here so future searchers can have an answer.
