Group Buy On Becker In-Dash Cd Player

I have a strong possiblity of obtaining these in dash players. I will have definite answer tomorrow at the latest.

This unit would be new in the box.

a couple of things to be aware of:

1. The AM tuning will not seek but can manually be tuned due to european AM spacing.

2. FM is fine.

3. RDS can possibly display occassional wrong station info.

This unit will tie in with your MFD on the dash as well as the steering wheel buttons.

This will not work if you have the built in phone option.

Posted below is a pic.

One of our members Raymond has this unit in his C class and is quite happy. I need to get a fairly quick count if you are interested so we can determine pricing.

Thanks,

Rick

I'm in but I have a few questions. There was a comment in your other thread that the 2003 model would have this also? Is that true? If so will this version be cheaper while maintaining quality? What is the installation like? ANy reprogramming of the computer? Thanks

So far MBUSA cannot confirm an in-dash player available for 2003.
The unit we are looking at is the exact one available in the UK and Australia as an MB option.
According to Raymond no reprogramming is necessary. Just 45 minutes to remove and reinstall the unit. Car accepts it.

If you check the other thread you can see the MFD and Color of unit at night.

Will it work with the CD Changer. Currently the numeric keypad is used to select a CD and this radio does not have a numeric pad. If it has a next/previous CD that's OK.

Thanks for the info...I am defnitely in, but price is an issue. Just another question...after looking at the pic of the unit it seems like there is a mute button on the bottom left of the unit. True? If so that would rock.

interested... depends on price... and also, what's the time frame of getting it? I know it's pricy to ship to Canada with all those customs and brokers ripoffs, so I may have a friend who can bring it across the border for me

The mute button will for some stupid reasson only mute the device in radio-mode. NOT in CD-mode....

I have that kind of radio (well it looks similar). Mine interacts with my 6disc MB changer in d glove compartment, all u have to do is press the CD button twice to access the CD changer. The 4 arrow buttons on the left side r for track and CD# when in CD changer mode.

Question: Given that the radio seems to have some downsides, why would one want to swap out the stock one? What does that radio do that the stock one does not? (other than have a CD slot, but if that is the only thing, why not spend the money on the stock 6 disc changer instead?)
Thanks.

I for one am a fan of single cd players. I don't like the Six disc as I travel alot and prefer to easily switch them in and out while on the road. I have a bit of ADD when it comes to music so Six disc doesn't work for me. Also I like the fact that I can get rid of the archaic tape deck. Also it's unique since it's not available in US.

Also I like the RDS and most likely it will work well.

Raymond is happy with it.

ok guys this is where we stand. I have a contact here in California working on it. Also a guy in England working on it. We probably won't have an answer till Sometime Monday. I won't be in my office tomorrow as I am going to the No Cal meet we are having. If they leave voice mail I will pick it up on Sunday.

Hopefully Monday we will have a price.

With rumors of the CD player coming to the US next model year, how about waiting until the details of THAT unit is known, then organizing a broup buy on it?

I'm kinda hoping the rumored US cd unit would control the changer too... sort of the best of both worlds, and I NEVER listen to tapes anymore. (All mine are at least 10-15 years old and sound horrible anyway!)

Guys, can I advise you to check German dealer prices against UK dealer prices.

We in the UK pay abouy 30% more for MB options on cars and parts than German dealers do. The Mercedes-Benz owned dealer in Stutgart (where MB is based) is happy to ship stuff around the world and speaks good english, and once you have established contact will communicate via email if you want.

If by anychance the German list price is similar, then whoever in the UK is helping Benzomontery, drop me a line and i'll compare what dealer discount I can get aswell - my local dealer is pretty good to me !

Cheers
Richard

Just radio and CD. No tapes . Can't give you a correct price, but I paid approx $400 factory mounted.

OK here is where we stand. My guy in NoCal is working with Becker US who is working with Becker Germany to find out what it takes to get these units imported.

The US Becker rep stated that the Germans are currently on some sort of holiday. He promises to keep me posted every couple of days.

Just know that I am working on this and am as interested as others are. I promise to post updates asap.
