Question Brake rotor replacement OEM vs Aftermarket

Well the time has come to replace my front brake rotors (or so the brainiacs at Mercedes tell me) and the prices they are quoting me are unbelievable.

I see that on the net you can buy aftermarket rotors like the Brembo's that will fit in place of the originals. These are 1/3 cheaper and the pads that people sell on the net are like 1/2 the price of Mercedes pads.

Has anyone had any experiences with the Brembo rotors or these pads that you get off the net?

brembo rotors are cheaper then what the dealer quoted you?!?!?! whoooaaaaa no way man!

here, they charge 650+ (including instal) to change the brake rotors at the dealer.... i still think that is expensive cuz i coulda gotten the c32 brakes for that price.

brembo GT 14"s here retail for 3595. and im pretty sure the price is consistant around the world for them... so that must mean that they are charging you a bomb on brakes. if brembos are cheaper, go for the brembos, they are the best brakes made.

I wish I could get the Brembo GT's but the ones that I am looking at are just the same as the Merc ones except they are cross drilled. I had a look at this site and found some interesting pricing but I am not sure if they are Brembo or some other brand. Also I see alot of these rotors on ebay for around $120USD.

Consider Zimmermann rotors. Porsche/BMW people like them. I chose to put them on my CLK a while ago because at the time I didn't want/need a big brake kit and these were "crossdrilled" rotors with cast holes as opposed to actually drilled holes. From what I've learned, cast holes are better in that they resist cracking. Improperly drilled "cross drilled" rotors often crack at the holes. Fairly inexpensive as well. I think I did both front and rears for a little over $200 or there abouts, not including the Porterfield pads. I would suggest having them Cad plated so the none braking surfaces don't rust.

Here's a BMW tuner who carries them. Just a little description.

HA! My dealer wanted 650 just for stock pads front and rear.
NO rotors.
Basturds.
I DIY'd the fronts for 70 bucks.
C32 brakes on order for 600 for next time.
Rears are still fine, didn't need them at all.
I'll be leaving those stock, but drilled rotors to match the AMG fronts would be nice when the time comes.

Are you kidding? My dad's 202 needs new pads (all 4) and we were quoted $275 by our local MB independent. That is just criminal...
