I've upgraded...

Well guys and gals, I just sold the C230 Coupe and got an 02 SLK32 AMG. Wow! What a difference! The AMG is a rocket! There are some features of the old C that I will miss, however. The main thing I will miss is learning from this forum about all of the cool C Class stuff. It was my first Benz, and this forum taught me so much, and I enjoyed reading your thoughts and insights. I only hope to be so fortunate with the SLK. Anyway, I'll check back periodically. Best of luck all!
Andy

That was my only real issue when I was deciding to buy it. I've driven stick since I was 15 (which was 27 years ago) and I like the whole aspect of hand/foot usage while driving. It just feels natural. That's why I really liked the idea of the C230 6 spd when I bought that car (although it was too notchy and sucked in comparison to anything else I had driven). But when I got the SLK on the freeway, it was like a rocket sled! I was totally impressed. So much that I sold my baby (96 Mustang Cobra Vert w/5 spd) as well as the C230 w/stick. I rationalized it too because I'm 6' 2" and my knees almost touch the area under the steering wheel as-is. Not sure I could do any clutch work because the SLK is so small. But I am very pleased overall.

The things I actually miss about the C230 more than the stick are thr steering wheel controls, one-touch turn signal feature, and auto-headlight feature. So to make up for it, guess I'll have to kick it down into "passing gear" occasionally!

Great upgrade!!! That is the next MB I am hoping to get...preferably in black. Hopefully the interior will be changed by the time I get it.

And it's a 2002 model so you didn't have to pay all that New Car overhead. Looks very smart to me.

How's the gas mileage? I know that it's lower and also that it's well worth it, but I'm just curious.

Thanks guys...

jpb5151, not sure about mileage yet, but I think it's supposed to be 18 city, 24 highway. But so far, it's not looking that good. Maybe because I can't seem to keep my foot out of it
