a-pillar metal clips, which way do they face?

a-pillar metal clips, which way do they face?
Both of mine popped off when I went to replace my a-pillar trim. Should the metal clips grab the a-pillar trim on the windshield side or the front seat side of the body mounting tab that holds the clips? Also, should the wire harness sit in the clips as well?
