Help ticking/clicking noise at idle!
I have a 2006 c230 sport 2.5L with about 125K miles. It just recently started making this strange rattle/clicking noise when it is idling or at a complete stop. The sound appears to be coming from the passenger side rear end. You can hear it from the driver seat but when you are sitting in the back on the right side it is very clear and when you listen by the wheel it is also very clear and underneath the car. Car went through a full inspection before I bought it and also had a complete tune up and all recommended repairs back in 2014. I was wondering if you guys knew anything about this or how to fix it? I am hoping to get some feedback before having to take it to the dealership and pay $300 to have them tell me what it is. Thanks

I had a similar problem on a 2003 320. The exhaust pipe is two pieces coming from headers. It merges into one piece going to the muffler (rear passenger side). The passenger side tube fits into the main tube and uses a crush seal. The seal can go bad or, in my case, be removed and not replaced by a hack mechanic. One easy way to see this is too look at the area where the tube joins the main line. In my case there were very obvious black streaks where exhaust gases were leaking out and discoloring the pipes. I replaced the seal (you need to replace the bolts and nuts as well... the nuts are one use only) and problem was solved.
I'm not 100% sure you have the same exhaust system but it does seem likely.
