MB Films???

I'm sure almost everyone here has seen or heard about the short BMW films at bmwfilms.com. Some of them are really amazing, especially "STAR" directed by Guy Ritchie. Does anyone know if Mercedes has any thing comparable to these or if they have any plans to make Merc movies?
The only thing I've heard is something about the new E Class being in MIB II.

the bmw films are very very good! of course, bmw is a little more hip than mercedes so i highly doubt that there would be a similar dvd from MB... but i would be happy to be proven wrong!

Isn't that on the Oscar short list for '03?

That movie looks like it's going to be so bad, in the "Fletch Lives" category.

films that market cars

The BMW films are very quality. It was a massive marketing campaign closely rooted to their brand and image. I would be suprised to see MB do something like this....I think it's too edgy for MB image. But, who knows? Maybe they want to move into another space.

i think we are in the minority here, thinking the BMW films were cool.

most independent ad review sources i looked at rated them very poorly. Personally i thought they were cool....but nothing compares to the chase scene glory of

Ronin!

2002 Mercedes-Benz C230 Kompressor Sports Coupe
I loved the BMW films, but I really don't think MB needs to persue the same road. BMW had a very specific strategy in mind with that campaign, and I'm not sure how effective it was. Their slogan is "the ultimate driving machine" and that is what the films were designed to show. My understanding is that it did not result in an an increase in sport packages sales (one way they were trying to judge response).

MB already has a very active movie business, with regular placement in dozens of movies and TV series every year. You have caught the Paprika C Coupe that keeps appearing in background shots on Alias, have you? Seems they feel it gives their "fake LA-based Euro sets" a nice European flair.

If I was in MB marketing, I might move towards more placement of their image cars (SLK, C Coupe, CLK, CL) instead of their regular sedans. But then again, I don't really think their marketing is hurting in the first place. When was time you read an article that complained about off-target MB marketing?

Well, I would not imply off-target marketing. However, the introduction of the below 30grand (only in marketing, b/c usually it goes over 30grand) C-Coupe has definetly been considered an off-market tacit by MB. But, who are we or all the freelance reporters in the plethora of mags on the rack, kidding. BMW and MB are world-class auto manufacturers. I think they know what they are doing. What other car company comes close to these two?

"What other car company comes close to these two?" <--- bad words, sorry. I'm not writing that other car companies are any worse than BMW and MB. Every car company is different, in order to satisfy the wants and tastes of us.

But, thanks for posting this list. All of car companies mentioned above have different brands, thus different marketing perceptions in the world. I can't see BMW or MB every going out of business. No matter what happens, they will continue to evolve and produce quality automobiles.

Imagine Rolls Royce/Bentley doing the same concept or campaign like the BWM films. Now that would be silly.
