Maintenance Free Battery?

Based on my experience with BMW Batteries that claimed to be maintenance free but were really not, since if you treated as maintenance free, the battery would only last 2 years. I am willling to bet that the MB battery is the same type and probably the same OE Manufacturer(they sure do look the same). I have to open up the screw caps to see whats inside just to double check, but if there is water in there as I suspect, general rule of thumb is to check it 4 times a year, once every new season, and if you live in a hot climate check it again mid-summer since it is evaporation that we are fighting here. Use Distilled water and do not fill above the bottom of the screw caps. I had a BMW battery last 6 years using this regime, while the average was 2 years for my peers that did not top off.
