Front Lower suspension control arm ball joint help?

Hi Guys

My wifes W203 year 2002 has progressively had a lose rattle when going over bumps through the steering. Inspecting this today I see that both left and front lower suspension control arms have lose ball joints at the wheel hub and if the I move the wheels I see the ball joint lift up and down a few mm.

My question is , do people normally change the whole control arm, or is it worth trying to remove just the ball joint and if so can this me done easily without special tools?

Thanks

You can't do just the ball joint you have to do the whole arm.
