Ugh! Last Wednesday night while my car was happily parked and I was having dinner my neighbours rang the door bell to tell me that thick white smoke was pouring out from under my bonnet.
Opened it up and I could see the plastic ESP box melting and bubbling, the ABS pump behing the metal block leaking and melted wiring. I immediately disconnected my battery.
So the tow truck came but I couldn't get my car into neutral... no power you see. Luckily the tow guy has worked on this model car before.
1. Open the sliding door to the cup holder.
2. Pry out the coin holder (there's a small slit).
3. Stick a screw driver into the hole and pull the handle away from the gear shift (so that the tip of the screw driver goes towards the gear shift).
4. Move into neutral.
Anyways, my car in in the shop for at least 5 weeks!!! But they did give me a cool loaner car, an E200K (previous model).
Bugger! This happened just before my new wheels arrived... it is so painful to see Brabus Block VI 18"x8.5 fronts & 18"x9.5 rears stacked in the garage... sniff

I stood there staring at it for a few minuts and it wouldn't stop smoking/melting.... so I disconnected the battery.... well that fixed it...
...they should have replacement manuals (free editions) on a CD!
