I personally hate RWD in the snow....but would not want to buy a car without it for sheer fun (perhaps all wheel drive is my true favorite). I had a BMW 330Cic and just about lost it in the snow. Went home and got my wife's Audi A6 2.8 Quattro and no worries. Had her take the day off work. Traded the Audi a few months later though as the engine was a piece of S*%@. Now have a Nissan Pathfinder that I wonder how we ever did without. Got rid of the BMW for my current car - 2003 C240. No snow to test it in.....yet.

If you have summer (high performance) tires get them off. The compound gets stiff in cold weather and there is little or no grip. This is true even with all wheel drive.

I have just had the experience of driving my car on a light snow covered road. I have to say the I can't imagine any car handling worse than my C230 coupe. It handles worse than civic or a tempo - both of which had all seasons and crappy brakes.

I've driven twice on snow now and I've actually decided to not drive it in inclement weather (snow). I've already told everyone that I never expected a car to handle like this - ever.

And as for stopping. It won't do it. I can be going 5 miles an hour, a full block-and-a-half from a stop sign, on a level road, and I bet I won't be able to stop the car in time.

I've actually been trying to find a solution to this problem, but I don't think that any solution will offer much improvement. Other than that the car is wonderful.

Do you have a preferred brand or tire that you recommend for the winter. I'd gladly take off the stock 16's and try something else. I think we will have about 2 months worth of winter left.

I have been using Bridgestone Blizzaks for years. I have them on both cars right now. I use the Blizzak WS-50's on my Mustang and LM-22's on the Mercedes.
