C240 goes into "limp" mode
My 2001 C240 was running fine and suddenly lost power and would only creep along in first gear. I waited about an hour and it started right up and was fine. I took it to the local MB dealer and they diagnosed it needed new O2 sensors. This happened a few years ago, exact same thing, and another dealer replaced the steering wheel angle sensor and the problem went away until now. I am skeptical that it is the O2 sensor, seems like something is throwing a code into the computer to tell it to go into this mode. Then it goes away. Anyone have suggestions what it might be or how to diagnose it? The dealer based their diagnosis on the codes they read.

Out Of Control!!
Typically when in limp the CEL will light up and you pull the codes fix the problem and you are on your way!!
However I agree with you 02 sensors--wow that's a new one

I also have read the mass airflow sensor could do this. Also could be the lead wires from the coil packs. I read the codes with my Actron Pocketscan and only saw mis-fire codes. I will post what I find out.
