Dash switches
I have a FM modulator ready to be installed. I want to do 2 things:
1. Obtain one of the missing switches (the ones around the caution/emergency light button) and wire it to turn the FM modulator ON/OFF.
2. Use one of the empty switches as a "door" that can be flipped up and down to expose the RCA connectors and/or a 3mm plug (headphone/line plug) on a retractable cable that can be pulled out to be connected to my MP3 player.
If I can't get a new switch, I am thinking about hijacking the door lock switch.
Basically what I need to find is:
1. Dash switch
2. Retractable wire device (like the ones for power plugs on some vacuums)
3. A cool cell-phone or cup holder to put my MP3 player in when all connected.
Any comments/ideas would be appreciated.
Also, have you considered the aux port mod (documented in this forum) for cars without comand? I did it on my C32 at it works great. It offers the best sound quality and ease-of-use possible without replacing the radio.
I've heard that the dash switches only come as clusters (there are many variations and part #'s) and that you can't get individual switches.

To me, it seems as if the things you want to do are the means to a similar end. If you have an FM modulator, what is the reasoning behind the aux in?
I have an iPod and iTrip modulator. While I know that no FM modulator will match the sound quality of a direct line in and good modulators that wire in line with the antenna would no doubt do better than the iTrip, it works okay for me.
Sounds like a great idea, although I don't really have the time or the nerve to dissasemble my dash (have a fear of breaking some little clip or getting it back together only to have it rattle).

Not sure what the "Aux" mod they are talking about. I saw before someone hardwired their cassette decks with an audio input, yet without command, there is no AUX input available.
I bought an inline antenna FM modulator and need to place it behind the dash and write the RCA inputs and switch somewhere accessible.

It is a far better solution than a modulator unless you need to retain the tape deck functionality.
Good luck.
The aux mod is the one that replaces the cassette line inputs with an aux input. It is a relatively simple mod to do and you can find the threads by searching for them. I recall posting the link in two recent threads on this topic.

I'm going to open the switch assembly and see what's the deal with the Canbus controlled inside. These are still just switches and I bet the are just wired into a micro-controller which should be easy to bypass. Otherwise I'll dremel open a switch, put it on a hinge and place my RCA jacks with FM modulator switch underneath the flip-switch.
