It's been a good 20k miles...
Bought the C with just over 120 k miles, and I gotta say, it's been a great ride. In about 20k miles I've only gotten one CEL, the fuel filler neck P0456. Other than that, this car has been a joy to own and drive. Everything else I did to it was preventative or brought about by my OCD, and even most of that turned out to be completely unnecessary. Even at 140k miles it's still waay more fun to drive than plenty of newer cars i've rented/borrowed/test drove etc.
Itching for a new(er) car though...I wanna stick with german, and since I've owned MB and BMW, I see an Audi in my future...but I'm keeping the C. I'm gonna drive this thing to 200k.
This car's PO must have been just as OCD...

MBWorld Fanatic!
I'm getting P0456s, too. How did you solve it? Did you replace the fuel filler neck? Did you do it yourself or did you have a shop do it?
Thanks!
Thanks!

In my experience these cars are generally quite reliable, especially if the pre 100k mile owners treat them well. Other than that a peek under the hood every couple of weeks goes a long way, and things like cracked belts/hoses, oil/coolant seepage etc when fixed promptly prevent bigger problems later. A good example is the alternator pulley clutch, which can take out the ac compressor under the right conditions. Mine was seized when I checked it...glad I did before something broke. This forum has been a gold mine for trouble-free motoring the last 20k miles.
I think after 200k miles pretty much any car is going to require more $ thrown at it....wear and tear is a b!tch...
