What does DYNO MODE DO? Beware NOOB question!

Hi All;

Have owned my beautiful c230 just a few days and I am already in love. I just don't understand why reviewers are so negative about this car. It is a very nice looking car, nice suspension, and a great little supercharged engine!

As a NOOB, I have been scanning through the forum relentlessly to learn as much as I can. I do most of my work DIY, so I benefit greatly from auto forums (and your comments and suggestions).

It is my understanding that there is a DYNO MODE in our car. Noticed the procedure for the setting, but I looked and looked but I cannot find a description of what it actually does?

Does DYNO MODE increase engine power (i.e., perhaps by effecting ignition timing or air-fuel ratio) or does it just turn off traction control and anti-lock brakes?

Comments/criticisms/references are welcomed!

It does turn off traction control and ABS. It also seems to make the car run like a bat out of hell. This is from experience - I used to put it into dyno mode when I was going to replace the rear tires anyway, as it makes burnouts or smoking the tires very easy. I might be lucky as I've never had an issue, but have read about people causing squirly problems with the car when doing the same. YMMV. Have fun but be careful/safe.

It also allows you to view some info that you otherwise wouldn't, like how much actual oil is in the car. Do a search; it depends on the year of your car as well. Earlier W203s have more easter eggs in dyno mode, I believe.

Reviewers are negative because there are a lot of not so good aspects of the car. You'll find out eventually.

I am totally in love with this car. It's true the straight line speed is not great, but it is also only a 4 cylinder.

The car also FEELS fast and makes an incredible sound. The ride is a bit stiff but I like it. There seems to be virtually no body role, which I love. The interior and exterior are gorgeous. What more could you want?

I also only paid $5500..

In terms of dyno mode, I wish there was a way to keep on ABS and traction control. Wonder if there is documentation indicating how much power actually increases?

Zero power increase. The only "increase" is a decrease in the reduction to power that ABS and/or traction control would have had as they cut in and nanny the car.

You can turn off stability at the center console, but a residual still kicks in if necessary. I found that this was superior for autocrossing. Dyno mode was too open-ended; you really felt the heft of the car.

Yes, didn't mean to imply any more power in dyno mode. As Tommy said, it just takes the some of the computer controls out of the loop.

I was disappointed to find that traction control is really still there when you turn off at center console. Off at the console just means it kicks in a little later...
