Cool Broke the Coolant reservoir hose, help plz..

Hello everyone.

so i have a C230 2005, V4.
I got a problem while trying to change the low beam right.
i touched the coolant reservoir hose by mistake and broke the hose that is connected between the coolant tank and the engine.

here's the picture.

here's a deep one:

A really close one :

So i tried to connect the hose, but it just doesnt work i don't know why it doesnt fit, any ideas ?! i figured that i will not move the car since it's connected to the engine, because of the heat that is gonna come.

Thanks MB guys.

You broke a plastic fitting that goes between the coolant reservoir hose and the engine fitting. If you lift up on the 'S' looking clip on the engine side, you will be able to take the one side of the broken piece out. The other side of the broken piece is in the rubber hose and you need to remove the hose clamp to take it out. I don't have the part #, but if you search a little bit here on the forum you can find it. I used to keep a spare in my glove box but apparently it was lost...

BTW, you have an Inline 4 cylinder engine (I4), not a V4.

Edit: Found it under a bunch of CDs in the glove box. The part # is 003 997 06 89. It's about a $10 part and a 10 minute job.

Correct. This is a notorious part, many have been stranded by it. I carry a spare one in the glove box

s thing is the retainer for the nipple, just pry up and pull out the broken nipple, insert the new nipple and press down the S pin and will lock it in

the hose clamp is the black spring clamp on your hose

It's the easiest of the 4 "plastic" coolant pipes (that I know of) on the M271 to replace, and for most people (myself included) this is the first one to fail, because of its size and location right above the exhaust. These are the other 3 coolant pipes. They won't fail for a while (1-2 years after the small one in my experience), but get ready for them to go next. You'll know you have problems when you start getting Low Coolant errors. The good news about these 3 failures is that they result in slow leaks/weeps and don't leave you stranded.

Just like the others say, keep a spare of the tiny one in the car somewhere. It's a really dumb way to get stranded. When mine broke, I was back on the road in 5 minutes.

Both ends aren't inserted far enough. Did you get all the bits of the old one out?

Looks like the metal clip isn't full lifted. It should be lifted at least 2/3 the diameter of the plastic pipe.

If you're 100% sure there are no old connector bits in there, sounds like you have to push harder.

On the rubber hose end, the clip can be loosened with a pair of pliers. While it's loose, force the hose in. Might be easier to have a 2nd pair of hands to help.
