A/C quit yesterday

I'm hoping this wasn't a warning shot across the bow, but about 5 minutes into a trip home, my A/C simply shut off yesterday. It was set to auto, (2 zone analog controls) fan was running full speed and blowing ice cold air. I poked the Auto button again, it switched on for about 30 seconds and then back off. A subsequent jab yielded an on-off cycle of the LED, but it didn't stay on long enough for the fan to start. I used the manual fan control after that, and it worked normally. Later in the day, set it back to Auto and no issues. Poor connection somewhere, failing control module or sensor? No trouble codes appeared on the dash display. This car had many visits to the dealer while under warranty for electrical issues with the stereo, sunroof and cruise control, but has run with no problems at all for almost 10 years and 83k miles. One battery, one set of tires, one set of brakes.

Have you ever removed the AC panel and then reassembled it on your center console at some point (when upgrading your stereo for example)? If so, make sure the connector isn't loose. Also, if you are low on refrigerant this issue can occur. It happened to me a few years ago.

Rather a while ago this was all posted, but updating: The car sat with a limp mode transmission code, which I couldn't reset after replacing the battery (low hanging fruit...) Seven years later, I've resurrected it. Everything inside the fuel tank has been replaced, you could crumble the black crossover tube with your fingers, and ooh, the smell! Flushed with new fuel and replaced the rotten tires, charged the battery and A/C, replaced the center LCD display. We've been driving it locally for now, until certain the transmission code won't reoccur, but it drives like when it was new, and idles like a Swiss watch. The A/C works great even in 115 degrees. Oddly, if you increase the temperature setting over about 67, dampers move to defrost and it starts getting hot inside the car. To this day, almost everything Mercedes installed on the car is original, belts, hoses, thermostat, plugs, brakes... Plans are to replace belts, hoses and coolant before any long trips. Chris, the dealership replaced the center console HVAC panel probably 20 years ago because they broke a locking tab on the connector when they were in there replacing a damper door motor. I'd have zip-tied it and moved on...
