Command Vs. Pioneer Navigation

I know this has been discussed here before, I am now seriously considering getting an aftermarket GPS/ Navigation system - may be a Pioneer AVIC 80DVD. I have done some research on all the options and I think it will be a good fit for me. I have some questions:
1.) Can I keep my stock radio and CD changer and just add this?
2.) Does anyone know of a place in LA area that can do a clean install?
3.) How much should I expect to pay? I have seen some on eBay for $1200-$1400.
Thanks, VK

I wouldn't buy from ebay...i'd only use a Pioneer dealer.

Not sure about the stock radio and changer...I pulled both and did an entire pioneer setup.

My setup:

Yeah. I use my shaver, laptop, charge my Clie, MiniDV for those in car movies, etc...

It's one of my favorite things that I added...

You'll be lucky to even get it for 1, 900. Oh btw, avic-80 is only 1 component. The entire system comes in 2 components: sys-910dvd

I'm looking to upgrade my COMAND to a similar setup as tifo...but just haven't got the finances yet. If it was that cheap, everyone would be getting one.

You can risk getting it through eBay, might be the lucky few who gets one without a defect/fault or anything of that nature. good luck!

damn, i need tengo dinero!

Actually mine is more then 2...

AVIC - Navi = Now $1,800 - When I bought $2,500
AVM - Brain = $810
AVX-P7300DVD - Screen = $1,850

Then I added XM & 6-Disc CD changer.

The newer 'touch' screens do not require a brain. I initially didn't get a touch screen because I didn't want to downgrade to a 6.5 and I didn't want to 'touch' my screen...getting prints all over my video is annoying. Pioneer has 2 new screens coming out soon.

1. Touch screen with buttons you can feel...the dynamically changing buttons actually have texture on the screen...and when no buttons are there the screen is flat...not sure how they do it, but its cool.

2. Navi/Screen/DVD all in one Din. This will also include G-Tech like functions that allow a screen of custom gauges for G-Force, pitch, roll, etc....

My next upgrade is when #2 comes out...the gauges looked too cool.

The new one from pioneer is the AVIC-N1

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...704201,00.html

The revolutionary AVIC-N1 offers simple touch panel or voice command letting consumers simultaneously access Memory Navigation information (route guidance, electronic mapping, points of interests, etc.), entertainment (audio entertainment for front seat passengers, DVD-video entertainment for rear seat passengers) and vehicle dynamics (speed, acceleration, lateral G-Force, angular velocity, slope, angle, etc.).
For the first time consumers can obtain route guidance information, listen to AM/FM/XM satellite radio, play DVD movies for rear passengers and monitor the performance of the vehicle, all at the same time. Users can quickly switch views between different sources available - navigation, vehicle dynamics and DVD video. Pioneer’s AVIC-N1 is the most advanced in-car navigation system in the market.
Soooo cool.

I used to have a Pioneer dvd deck and also a mp3 deck on my car. I don't think they are really good. The pictures is okay...but if u want quality, you should think about Alpine. Alpine screen have the highest pixels.

I completely disagree...I never liked Alpines offerings. Although they are generally cheaper then Pioneer, I always thought they also felt cheaper.

Pixels aren't everything, and the screen isn't that close to my face that I ever see pixels when I watch movies.

Alpine is not cheaper it is considered the best though. It is supposed to have the best pixel display in a 7"monitor and the best sound quality/processor. I do agree the styling is bland and unoriginal though. LOOKS cheap. And the feautures are a bit lousy too for a $2300 deck. BUT if doing a show car I would still go Alpine D900 only.

MSRP directly from their sites:

Alpine: IVA-D900 - $2,300

Pioneer: AVH-P7500DVD - $2,700
or if you don't want the touch screen:
Pioneer: AVH-P7490DVD - $2,800

All 7" screens
All in dash DVD

Who's cheaper again?

LorinserCClass, Are you doing Alpine for your call? Is that why you are selling Command?

tifosiv122, I think the dealers will discount these from MSRP. I am looking to spend about $1800 total on all this.

Hell, if you can get the whole system for only 1800, put me down for one too. I'll get it.

I'm sure dealers discount off of MSRP...I doubt you'll find the Navi and the screen for $1,800...actually, I highly doubt it...

Correct. I need something more elaborate for what I need to do for my car, and Alpine suits it. Even at cost you cant get navi AND the screen for 1800...that is why people go for comand.

tifo:ok ok you know your retail prices better than me

Prob. not...I just looked it up because I know Alpine is always $200-500 cheaper on similar products.

For $1,800 you can prob. go with a used system...but then you are taking a much greater risk then just a new purchase off of Ebay.

Prices have come down significantly...in my Navi alone the retail price from Oct. 2002 to Jan 2004 dropped $700 and it's the identical system.

The one thing I like about Pioneer is that their Navi that came out around 2000 is identical to the one they sell in 2004 and they sell an update DVD for $380 that makes your original unit identical to the newest one...so your not spending the money over and over again. I am not just talking about new maps...this is a full update:

Touch screen
Maps
GUI
Map Speed
Firmware Upgrade

I think thats great...they could just sell the maps for that price and tell people to buy a whole new system...but they dont.
