oil level
I have w203 model 2005 c200. It has 91000 Kms and I never noticed oil lowering through its electronic gauge. yesterday, I noticed it was showing 5.5 L instead of 5.7 L that it used to show since the time I had the oil changed 200 kms back. Is this normal? Sometimes it shows 5.6 L instead of 5.5 L but not 5.7 L any more. I also need to know if oil sensing mechanism is affected by outside temperature too. I check it when the engine is cold and these days outside temperature is 15 degrees celcius. Is the cold oil temperature affect measuring of the oil since its viscosity changes when oil is cold. When I was reading 5.7 L, outside temperature was 25 degrees centigrade. sorry for being weird.

If it's not giving you a low oil level warning, everything's ok. There will be some shrinkage in colder weather (Seinfeld reference), and every engine burns a bit of oil, so that little difference isn't much to worry about YET, I don't think. I'd keep an eye out, though.

Thanks Tommy. It was never like this before and this is the first time I am experiencing it since the start of winters. This was first oil change in winters and my car has done 91000 kms already. Please share the engine life as a whole? Does it run for 300,000 kms? I change oil every 700 kms with Mobil 1, 100% synthetic oil.

It can last that long. The engine tends to be generally the strongest part of the W203 generation. It's the electronics and endless supply of end link/bushing replacements that are more worrysome.

The 722.6 Five speed is a very reliable transmission as long as you don't have the Valeo Radiator that likes to mix coolant with the transmission oil and you service it by the book. My 722.6 shifted very well with 215k Miles on it so thats well over 300,000 kms
Only thing I would look into is which engine your car has as if it is the m271 they are known to stretch timing chains.
