From what I keep seeing on the forum there won't be a 2003 C230. They say it will be replaced by a 2003 C180. This may be the last chance to own a C230. Some 2003 models have already come out. Last year the C230 came out on August 1st although a few people got it in late July. The C sedans came out a month later in September.

It seems that the 2003 will still be called the C230k even if it has the 1.8 liter engine. Someone posted that the 2003's go into production in August, so if that is true, it would be early September before they are at the dealers.

What about long term supportability of the 2.3 engine? Has it been manufactured for a while? I don't know the history.

The 2.3 engine is the same one that is found in the SLK. So it has been around for a while and from what I heard, it will continue to be offered in the SLK.

The 2.3 engine is old and has a long history. You don't have to worry about support problems.

Hi,

And do not forget, nothing is entirely official yet. Maybe there will be a 1.8 litre C230 or maybe it will be called a C180 or maybe they will keep the 2.3 litre or maybe (blah, blah, blah) . . .

It does not appear that any content will be removed from the car (some new features might be added) and the new engine is an all new higher tech engine than the 2.3. It has almost the same hp, but torque will be less. On the other hand, it will have better fuel economy, and because it has balance shafts, it will be smoother. The price, if it changes, will only go up.

Torque = acceleration. Like the 2.3, the 1.8 will be electronically limited to 130 mph.
