yes you have to remove the panels and look near the top of the rear deck.

C320 wagon
Bump for steps

How do you remove interior panels in C320 wagon to get to the top shock fastener? Step by step to avoid damage. Thanks

C320 wagon
Okay, here's for those that have C-class wagons and need to access the rear shock towers. I was afraid at first but pushed through hoping to not break any plastic. This is how to gain access to the upper shock fastener. First, remove the two rearward side panels with the black buttons on the sill. Remove the floor panel above the spare tire. Remove the Torx screws top and bottom from the wheel well panels. There are three tie-downs in the remaining floor panel. Use a plastic interior tool to pop out the small recessed piece that covers the ring. There are Torx bolts under them. Try not to break the small tabs on either side of this piece. Pull the panel rearward and the up to fully release it. Finally, remove the two bumpers at the top of each wheel well panel. Pull the wheel well panels outward until the tabs pop out of the body. You can see the top fastener clearly and have good access. I used a bunched up blanket to keep the panel open enough to fit the wrenches in to remove the upper shock nut. That's it. Hopes this helps the next wagon owner.
