Putting down a deposit
I am looking into buying an 04' C230K and was wondering if it was absolutely imperative to put a deposit down on a vehicle that will be shipped to the dealership. Or is there any way around this? I don't much care to put a deposit down cause' i'm trying to buy this car as a surprise for my wife and don't want her to notice the 1K missing. Thanks for any replies!!

When I ordered mine they also asked me for a 1k deposit which they never charged to my Credit card until when I went to pick up the car, then I pay that amount plus 2k more since I am leasing

Whether a dealer requires a deposit has a lot to do with what you order and whether it is east to sell in the event you balk. For example, order a Citron Green "aka 120 day supply green" C320 Coupe with a manual tranny, Comand and wood trim and see if they do not require a sizeable deposit. OTOH, order a silver with black interior C230 Sport Sedan with sunroof and AT and they will likely not require a deposit. You can blame them for alot of things, but this seems reasonable. Why should they get hung with a wierd car that no one will want.

silberrosa, i plan on purchasing a C230K Granite Gray Metallic with Ash leather interior. It will be an auto, sunroof, and still deciding on 6 disc CD changer and Xenon lights. Still think i need a deposit?? I guess i'll do whatever it takes to get this deal done though.

I had to put $1,000 down on my order as well. I inquired at three different dealers about getting the exact car I wanted and they all said a special order on C230 sedan requires $1k deposit.
