Dead Battery, or in need of replacement causes lot of wierd problems.
Just like the human body cuts the blood of the extremities when someone is freezing to
death, mercedes cuts the power to 'uneccessary' things like, starting with the radio, then wipers, dash etc.
Any work on the trans other than just an oil and filter change will likely need
to be connected to STAR diag and have adaptations reset.
How these things happen?
Old dying battery, Oil in the trans harness, oil in the cam sensor harness...causes some issues.
Water intrusion can cause issues with Canbus until things dry out...
Not exactly sure what things you have happening at this point.
Mechanic says to trash the car but you give little detail.
