To Be alarmed or not to be alarmed this is the question?????

Last night my car got broken into in San Francisco at 3rd and Mariposa (Beware). They stole my sisters pursed but worst they Smashed my 4 day old black C-Coupe R window. Glass every where. Little powered slivers all over. In the perferation holes in the seats even. Scratched my paint a bit. Tiny puntures and litle tears on the door. I felt so saddend and I was so so so p-od. Just could'nt believe it!!!
Question?
Should my Alarm have gone off and if so for how long?
Should I have the insurance company replace the door panel where their are small/tiny minute but to me no longer perfect door pannel?

Yvette,

I'm so so sorry this happen to you! I don't know about the alarm, but one would think a broken window would set it off.

Yes, get your door panel replaced! If there are slivers of glass in the leather, it could (but not likely too) affect your air bag in some way.

You should spend time cleaning you car out. When my car was broken into in DC, I found glass for years.

Hang in there!

Beth

PS. You know a women up the street from me has a black c230 with charcoal leather too. We're setting a Bay Area trend!

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I was told when i bought the car that glass breakage would set off the alarm. Nevertheless, I am not sure how long the alarm would go before resetting.

I have been fortunate to never have my car broken into. I guess that is partly due to the fact that I always had a garage to park my car.

Sorry again,

CP

What exactly does the alarm protect against? Is the starter or fuel pump disabled, and what various actions set off the alarm? What about motion? Does anyone have an aftermarket system that's better than the factory setup?

See Garage
I thought the alarm would go off, as well...

Talk to your insurance company about the comprehensive coverage. Have the damage fixed, and move on.

Oh, and BTW, don't beat yourself up over this, but learn the obvious lesson about never leaving a purse(d) in plain view in the car ever again. You wouldn't have had this problem had your sister taken her purse.

Yvette -

very sorry to hear about your incident.. i can imagine how you feel...

just out of curiosity..did you have tele-aid activated? because you are supposed to geta phone call notifying you that you alarm has been set off and i think they may go as far as sending the cops over... atleast that is what i was told... but if the alarm didn't even go off... then i wonder.. what sets it off?

That's enough to ruin your week, and I'm sorry it happened to you. The alarm didn't malfunction though. On the C-Coupe, there are fewer alarm triggers than some of the higher-line cars. There is no glass-breakage sensor on the 230 Coupe, nor is there an interior motion sensor. The only things that will activate your alarm are:

-If either one of the doors are opened
-If the hood or hatchback is opened
-If the vehicle's angle changes due to the car being towed
