I'm so so sorry this happen to you!
I don't know about the alarm, but one would think a broken window would set it off. Yes, get your door panel replaced! If there are slivers of glass in the leather, it could (but not likely too) affect your air bag in some way.
You should spend time cleaning you car out. When my car was broken into in DC, I found glass for years.
Hang in there!

PS. You know a women up the street from me has a black c230 with charcoal leather too. We're setting a Bay Area trend!
I have been fortunate to never have my car broken into. I guess that is partly due to the fact that I always had a garage to park my car.
Sorry again,
CP
Talk to your insurance company about the comprehensive coverage. Have the damage fixed, and move on.
Oh, and BTW, don't beat yourself up over this, but learn the obvious lesson about never leaving a purse(d) in plain view in the car ever again. You wouldn't have had this problem had your sister taken her purse.
very sorry to hear about your incident.. i can imagine how you feel...
just out of curiosity..did you have tele-aid activated? because you are supposed to geta phone call notifying you that you alarm has been set off and i think they may go as far as sending the cops over... atleast that is what i was told... but if the alarm didn't even go off... then i wonder.. what sets it off?
-If either one of the doors are opened
-If the hood or hatchback is opened
-If the vehicle's angle changes due to the car being towed
