M112 Engine Washing

Okay I searched online and the forum a lot of times already and I am still debating if I should do it. Everyone has their own opinion on it and that is whats confusing me. Can someone help me with this topic? Power wash or a regular hose wash? What should I cover to not get wet and how? Car started, warmed up, or engine off? Please help me, the old owner did not fix a oil seep and now its everywhere. Thanks in advance.

not a merc
I wash plenty at work. cold engine. engine off! remove aircleaner. cover up throttle intake. and I wash it with a good degreaser. no high pressure. difficult parts I use a brush. when done I hose off with water. Then.. blow everything off with compressed air especially the coils and suppressors. once it's dry u can start up. no problem.
