Ya'll are every helpful. I would guess that any engine that came in that year w203 would fit. Now the question is money and time. If you want to drop it in and go buy the same engine and replace it with that.

c55 motor won't fit, front end was from a clk FIY.
2004 c230 has M271 obviously.
I guess for other types of engines you'd need the ECU as well, also not sure about the flywheel compatibility to torque converter (on older models they had different ones per engine model etc).
