Power Steering pump whine after replacement.
Trying to help a lady friend of mine. She has a 2001 C320. The OE PS pump leaked at the front seal so I replaced it for her.
She is on a tight budget so she decided to go with t his re-man from Vatozone. Plus also replaced the resevoir.

Filled with all new fluid and fired it up. Have some steering now but it still whines alot turning and the steering gets stiff at times. What gives? Rack going bad?

Bit of a dumb question, but did you get all the air bubbles out of the system? If not, turn the wheel full L lock and R lock several times back and forth, then shut off the engine and check the fluid level again.

yes. I turned the steering more than 20 times when initially done and also shes been driving it for over a week. I assume the bubbles would have worked their way out by now.

Car is to be sold so we decided to do a flush using the return hose as a catch and keep pouring in fluid until it came out all like new fluid. This time just used synthetic transmission fluid instead. DexronIII.
Smooth quiet power steering now.
