2002 C230K Coupe
People still don't know......

I guess you all remember I had a pot hole incident and ruined my 2 weeks old rims on the right side? Well, front one was cracked and rear one was just bent. But the wheel repair shop didn't balanced it right so I went into Mr Tire to get rebalanced.
Anyways...
I park the car where it can be seen from the inside the store.
He came out and examined the right wheels and went back in the store to write up the repair/balance order.
As he was typing, he saw my work badge and got my name from there...and then all of sudden he said "is that a new VW?"
I was like VW? You didn't even see the three star when you were examining?....and then he was like "oh....I thought it was one of those VW hatchback"
What the hack.....Does c coupe looks like VW to anybody?

Anyway I was kinda shocked by his comment.

By the way Mr. tire couldn't balance my front rim either. They told me I need to get new rim and tire for the right front.

I see some similarities in the looks of the VW Corrado and the C230 coupe, but the Corrado is far from a new VW.

Not yet
I tend to roll down my windows when I drive by the police.
I'd be doing that often since it's getting warmer.

I think the side view of the C230 looks very much like a VW Corrado. I've even used the similarity to describe the car...

Wow....I forgot how similar they look. I always liked the Corrado, but it wasn't out there very long.

Yeah, and its predecessor, the Scirocco, even had a similar peekaboo window under the rear spoiler. Mercedes copying Volkswagen - who'da thunk?!

By the way, a buddy of mine said, when first seeing my car (from the back) "I thought you said you got a Mercedes?!" I told him to walk around the front, and he broke a smile in recognition and nodded, yep, it's a Benz alright.

Cosa de costumbre, as my Jersey City Boricuas would say.

I wish reviewers would take notice that it is more likely that German designers got the idea from the old Volkswagen than from the Honda CRX...

When I was in my early twenties back in 1989 I longed for a corrado, I couldnt afford it hence I ended up with a 1989 Fox. $189.00 a month plus $700.00 annually for insurance, god I miss those days. Anyway I Drove that thing for eight years and 175,000 miles until 1998, drove it right into the ground. Looking at the picture of the corrado again I know why I ended up with the C Coupe. It's a Freudian slip of my wishes if I've ever witnessed one.

I have a c280 sedan tinted 5% all around (limo tint) and I haven't been pulled over yet. And I live in California also. Cops here can be nasty. When I had 35% tint a year back I didn't get pulled over but I got a fixit ticket. The cop straight busted a U turn and got out of his car when all my windows were down(to let out the hot summer air) then he demanded me to roll up my window. I didn't know they could do that.

True, but it looks like the Scirocco's been gone so long it's not even on a lot of the young whippersnappers' radar screen any more (no barb intended to our younger forum members - you guys are all cool with me ).

Earp, you're right - the Corrado was a sexy mother@#$%^ - too bad it was only short-lived. The Scirocco was out much longer, in several incarnations; I believe the Corrado was conceived as a latest-generation Scirocco, then renamed by the boys in marketing down in Wolfsburg. The Scirocco drove like a b!tch in heels, though - the one with the sub-spoiler window. Thank God we got the Benz now!

my first car was a 1979 vw Scricco. I loved that car. It had tons of body roll, and only 78 horse power, but it was the most fun car. when you are 16, i guess any car you buy your self is great. that was a long time ago, but i still miss the old car.

Well, the crx was much more successful than the Corrado ever was, so the reviewers tend to go for the easy comparo. Go to an autox and count the crxes. I certainly hope that, on reliability, the c230 resembles the crx more.

Of course, I may be a little biased towards the crx...

the corrodo comparo is most similar imo. the corrodo even came stock with a supercharger the first year or two. and if memory serves the corrodo was a pretty pricey compact. i know that back then i couldn't afford one
