Fog Light
Fog Light
To Everyone,
Is it true that when the Fog lights are on, the Left rear light would be brighter then the right? Cause the dealer is trying to tell me this is the case for for all MB vehicles. And if that is the case, what is the reason?

it's true...
however, u can turn rear fog off if u want to...
not sure, but my SA told me rear fog is illegal in CA...
rear fog is used so that when it's really foggy, drivers behind will know it's foggy ahead of them by looking at our rear fog light...

. Whoever is behind you already knows its foggy. Its there to make your car more visible since fog has a tendency, depending on thickness, to swallow the light output of your regular lights.
Turning the rear fog on is a great way to get tailgators off your ***.
But I hate it when people leave their rear fogs on (or more likely, don't realize they have it on). Benz drivers are pretty bad, but Audi drivers are the usual offenders.

The reason is not to confuse the rear drivers that it's your brake lights. So in North America, the European cars that are equipped with rear fog lights has the left side light up while in UK or right handed driver side, the rear fog light is on the right side. Now, it is only recent years that they started to do this so there might be some vehicles out there (2000 or older) that has rear fog lights on both side.
Hope this helps.

After my brabus bodykit was installed, every time i turn on all four fogs, my rear right light is lighter then the left one. I wonder why is this, And is there a way to correct it....it kinda annoying
Not sure: But if you can order the parts from Europe for a right-side car, then you might be able to get the bulb board that has a socket for foglight on the right side instead. But then you still has to wire it to the right.
All the bulbs are already there - just open the cover and take a peek. It is programmed this way.
No, there is no way to "correct" this, as this is already correct. The reason the driver's side is brighter is to mark this side in the fog for cars overtaking yours, as passing is only allowed on the left (reverse situation for the left-side driving countries). Of course, this implies that drivers observe the lane discipline - in most civilized countries they do, and it is strictly enforced, but this doesn't seem to apply to the US.

rear fog light
Do me and everyone else a great big favour and only use the rear fog light if visibility is under 50 metres (~50 yards).
Aside from being annoying in better visibility and rain, it is illegal in civilised countries (backed up by a hefty fine) to use a rear fog light with visibility >50 m.

I'm not good at telling distance...50m or ft...so I usually turn it on in foggy (duhhh) or if its raining.
Personally, I don't find fog light from the car infront of me bothering me. However, I do find the brake lights of come cars really annoying. The stock one in the Volvo 850 is REALLY bright! And of course, not mentioning those people who uses 'super bright' rear turning signals which drives me crazy!

I think I checked mine before (Canada). On the right side, the layout is different from the left side (missing bulb socket). The number of wire in the wireharness is different too.
