I'm just expressing an opinion.
To each his own. I looked up the specs on both products, and while similar they are not identical.

Interestingly they stayed in the specification that they cannot say that their product is compatible with all the vehicles they list in the state of California If it does not match the specs.
So I wonder if I go look at a bottle and a store here will it say it's still okay for Mercedes? I don't know I don't care because I won't need to do my transmission again for another 20,000 miles and I have at least four quarts on hand already so doesn't matter to me.

and use the shell ATF 134. That maxlife Valvoline crap is not approved by Mercedes. The shell product is cheap enough. Less than a hundred bucks a case on Ebay if you're going to do a full flush. Here's a kit that has everything you could want or need for changing your transmission fluid minus the fluid.

Or since you guys don't believe the filters are worth a damn and the non genuine stuff is the same as the genuine stuff then go for this one.

C230SC - hey just to confirm, the Shell 134 ATF is OK for our 722.6 transmissions and on par with the MB OEM stuff?

Shell website says so here - but curious if any issues you've experienced with the Shell stuff vs MB OEM fluid? Its definitely cheaper...

In NZ I rang the service dept of MB & they told me after 100,000kms one should change the oil in the auto box. A dipstick may be good to look at but not the bottom? There reasoning is once a car gets to this km stage things start to happen & it doesn't hurt to change the oils. An MD service they do it. In fact we have to get a yearly [WOF] Warrant of fitness. Inspectors will also check all your oils & brake fluid--any discolouration in the fluid you fail but have 21 days to return to get the WOF sticker on your car so it doesn't hurt to change!!!

I've used MB genuine fluid twice and Shell ATF 134 twice.
Currently running the ATF134 at 245K miles, and transmission is great, no slippages nothing.

I'm not goung to use non approved products to save $20 once every 5 years or some shiet.

C230 - appreciate the feedback and I just got my order of shell ATF 134 and will give that a shot so thanks. Got it on eBay a case of 12 quart for 90 bucks shipped which didn’t seem too bad

Pretty sure I read somewhere, that Mercedes came up with the fluid in assocation with Shell, so likely stuff in Mercedes bottle is from Shell, but can't say for certain. Good luck!

thanks so much guys for all your feedback on the trans service!!! I dropped the pan last night and took out all the nasty brownish fluid and ala replaced the fluid and gasket.

After that, i proceeded to use a mityvac with long 1/4 inch hose inserted into the trans dipstick location under the hood to suck out 3 quartz at a time then refill with 3 quartz new Shell atf 134. While not a professional full flush, I did this this process 3 times (9 quartz new fluid flushed through) and it worked great with each time the fluid becoming less brown/dirty and significantly more red. The fluid isn’t not clear red, but quite good and the trans shifts AMAZINGLY now smooth as butter and no jerking or clunking!!!!!

Did all this for under 200 bucks of which the vac was $80 the 12 quartz of fluid off eBay was $90 and I still have some left to flush and pump out over the next few months. All in all - trans is happy and shifting like new and I didn’t have to pay the dealer 600 for a full flush!!!

Thanks again C230sport and tjts1 for the help fellas
