Auto not working correctly

I now have about 110 miles on my car. After driving for a while (engine warmed up) nothing happens when I go "+" or"-". Similarly, if I hold it in these positions the car won't upshift or downshift. Has anyone had this experience? Going to call my service rep. tomorrow.

Those aren't upshift/downshift buttons. Those are mainly used for the radio volume.

you're pressing the + and - buttons on the steering wheel?

On the shifter, next to the drive position there is a "-" for downshifting and "+" for upshifts. They don't seem to work!

so at a stop, you tap the shifter to the left and on the computer display, it doesn't go down from "D" to "4" and so on?

if it doesn't, then i think something is very odd... i can't think of any reason why it is happening.

If you're tapping the shifter to the left and right and nothing is happening, and the indicator on the dash is not changing either, then you have a malfunction. I think you're just doing something wrong. Read the manual.

Nothing happens! Read the manual carefully. Also drove my mother-in-law's new CLK with the same transmission which works properly. No change in display either when trying to engage tiptronic. Pretty sure something is wrong. Regular "Drive" works ok. Still love the car despite the glitch!

See Garage
Just seeing this thread... There was a brief period (couple days) when I could upshift (+) manually, but tapping the shifter to the left (-) would NOT make it downshift, unless I held the shifter with hefty pressure to the left...

Before this happened, I had been under the console installing some wiring, and had removed the shifter knob, boot and bezel to do so. I wondered whether there was any extra pieces of leather material in the shift boot that had fallen down into the left side of the shift gate to prevent moving the shifter to the left.

I took the knob off again, and reinstalled. But, I didn't see any extra leather that could have created the problem. However, it does downshift fine, now.

If it is persistant in refusing to +/-, then I'd let the dealer handle it.

My first guess is that the problem is a bad ESM (Electronic Selector Module).

I brought the car in Thursday. My dealer agrees that the tiptronic feature is non-functional. They ordered a new shifter assembly; due to arrive in one week.

I'm really surprised that somewhere between coming off the factory assembly line and delivery to me that the car wasn't more thoroughly screened. This is my second problem in less than a month since taking delivery (first was the over-filled oil-- earlier thread).

I just got my initial survey. Do you think I should mention these things?
