Most blown ECU will NOT rattle! My ECU rattled because chrystal-oscillator fell off circuit board due to bad solder joint and vibration over time. But if I had shaken it before taking it to my Indy, I could have fixed it myself and saved lots of money too!
Apparently Mercedes-Benz call front SAM - Electrical Basic Module - a search of which for 2002 C240 returns:
http://www.mbpartsworld.com/productS...key_category=0
Any of these front-SAM part numbers should be fine for 2002 C240:
2039060005 ; 2035454201; 2035450601; 0025459401; 2035455001; 2035453001; 2035452801; 2035451001; 2035451601; 2035454601; 2035453601
http://www.mbpartsworld.com/p/Merced...039060005.html
W203/CL203 (c-class sedan/coupe) and W209 (CLK-class) share many parts. That said, the A2095450001 isn't on the list of Front-SAM for 2002 C240 as per above www.mbpartsworld.com site. In addition, I can't fine A2095450001 on www.mbpartsworld.com site. A google search of that part return mainly ebay listing from europe - maybe it's for right-hand drive CLK?
You might want to drop my the parts department of your local Mercedes-Benz dealership to inquire is A2095450001 is compatible with your 2002 C240.
As I recall, Front-SAM for our generation of W203/CL203 needs to be variant coded, not VIN-coded but matched to your cars options/accessories, thus giving the dealership your VIN# would be helpful so they'll know which variant to use! I don't recall Front-SAM requiring SCN-coding (coding between EIS, ECU, TCU, and other computers so they're introduced to each other)
With all these wiring connection the previous owner/mechanic did, you'll need to find a wiring diagram OR a Mercedes-Indy mechanic that specialize in Mercedes electricals.

So I should get a new SAM and have my independent shop code it in. I'm really hoping the new key and a new SAM will fix the car! Can I get a used SAM of eBay?

A used Front SAM of the proper part# AND variant (car main accessories/options) *might* be plug and play. But you should research and figure it out.
I'm not a Mercedes electrical mechanic. The problem **might be** that there was a wrong Front SAM installed in this car that **might have** damaged some of the other parts that should have been protected by a proper Front-SAM. Add to that, some of the wires for God knows what have been sliced and diced then mix and matched.
I'm assuming, you just buy cars at auction, fix them up and then sell them off. For this one, whether you fix it or someone else does, you really need a Mercedes mechanic that specialize in electricals to hook it up to Mercedes Star Diagnostics and check all the electricals to make sure the car is safe.

What sucks about all this is the previous owner tried to get away cheap and most likely made all of this worse. Will update after I atleast get the new key and sam
update: SAM is cleaned letting it dry now. The fuses for the most part all had burnt contacts or heavy discoloration compared to new fuses. calling Mercedes about the part number. If they say it will work on my car I'm going to continue cleaning get all new fuses and have it coded in properly when I go back to pick up the key!
update : called Mercedes confirmed the 209 part number will not work in my car at all according to them. I need 203 906 00 05.

That junkyard A2095450001 Front-SAM in your car now seems to have came from a European CLK 270(?) CDI coupe (non-convertible) - something not available in USA.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-C...-/361521558704
Thus, why part# 2095450001 doesn't show up on mbpartsworld.com - which is really a Mercedes-Benz dealership in USA selling parts online at a discount.
http://www.mbpartsworld.com/p/Merced...039060005.html
To add to the mystery, A2095450001 does appear as a "Previous Revision" for A2039060005 on ECS tunning site:
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...le/2039060005/
A search on www.getmercedesparts.com for 2095450001 shows that it's been updated to 2039060005 for various CLK models.
I could only find A2095450001 being compatible with some CL203 coupe from ebay and other less trust worthy sources.
Thus, ask your MB Parts department about whether A2095450001 is compatible with your car? It could be the variant issue.
Either way, it looks like the previous owner/mechanic botched a Front-SAM repair job and with the resulting issues just gave up. Since the Front-SAM is integral in CAN-BUS communication, this explains why you're getting the P0600 Communication Failure error code.
My suggestion is just buy a new Front-SAM from MB Dealership or one that has an online shop like www.mbpartsworld.com or www.getmercedesparts.com and give them your VIN to make sure you get the right Front-SAM.

The SAM turned out to be meant for the car. I replaced all the fuses and cleaned the SAM. I got a new key in and replaced the battery with a Mercedes AGM 95aH battery and now all is well! The car is fixed! Except for this SRS light I need to have checked! Code P0600 cleared itself and has not come back.

If you know how to pull the ecu pull it and get me the part number I can tell you. What kind of scanner are you using? I'd check that first

Is this what you need?
Check out this wood someone obvioisly placed here!
My issues are things like random misfire and bad idle, to instrument cluster will drop dead in the middle of driving and auto trans stops shifting just tops out rpm even if I hit the semi auto shifter to the +. Once I pull over turn her off and back on all is well

Yes that is the rear Sam if you look up in my post actually I have pictures in the engine bay of the ecu and front Sam which are the 2 things that are most likely causing the issues. Could be a Ignition/key problem but if it had a c230 ignition in it or a used one for that matter It wouldn't do anything at all. I'd pull the ecu from the front and let me get a picture of the sticker on it. Most likely the car had a blown ecu and they thought since it's a w203 it's all the same. I'd bet on the ecu being the issue. Are you able to pull any codes or will it not connect period?

It got as far as to say it's a c230 and after it wouldn't connect and pull codes. Only basic obd2 scanner pulls any codes. I'll do more work tomorrow and pull that ecu
