Depending on your age the C-Class Sedans are pretty easy on insurance premiums. I'm 50, and my premiums are $440 every 6-months.

More good news: You can trade in your CLK for a C-Class and get a modern rack and pinion steering system in the bargain. Or, you can wait for the new CLK... but that won't solve the insurance problem.

If you want to trade it in for a c-class then jump into the C32 AMG, now that's a car with style and a hell of alot of umph!! Insurance should go down since it's a sedan but that engine will definetley be better than the 240 or 320, closer to the clk 430(actually faster than). Good luck on whatever you decide.

I will have to agree with Sal, depending on your driving record, age, etc. a C32 will generally be easier on insurance than a CLK430 or CLK55. The C32 is actually a few grand cheaper than a CLK430 when it's loaded .

Kingman, you can thank the newly elected McGreedy...oops McGreavy DUMBocrats for that. Deregulation of insurance was a high priority campaign promise...under the guise that it would LOWER insurance rates here.

I got rid of an Eagle Talon, rated at 205hp(mine was actually a little higher ) and replaced it with my C230K (considered a hatchback by my insurance co.- ouch). In February, with the new deregulation, my insurance jumped from $1425 to $2390. When I called the insurance co. they explained that "because more cars are stolen in NJ and there are more accidents in NJ, insurance rates are expected to rise again this year". She then added, "Besides, you have a Mercedes. You can afford it!". Shortly after that, I called around for quotes....

BTW, my record is spotless...no accidents or tickets in over 10 years.

I moved from a Hyundai Elantra to the C230, and my insurance actually went down--I was shocked. According to GEICO, all the safety features drive down the cost.

Thumbs up

You might want to check Electric Insurance Co. I have yet to fine a company that can beat their rates. The service is excellent.

Depite the insurance premium difference, which you are in a better position to justify whether you can afford it or not, just wanna let you know that I've traded in a CLK430 for a C32 a few months ago. The CLK430 is a GREAT car (especially the V8 engine), but I have to tell you that I have ABSOLUTELY NO REGRET of getting a C32. Good luck!!

Damn - that sucks!

I just got a ticket for going 56 in a 40 yesterday - wonder how much my insurance will go up once State Farm finds out?

Voted for McGreavy, would do it again. Go liberal Benz owners! :p

Wow, only $5,000 with 4 points, that's great. In CA, 4 points is a mandatory 1 year suspension with no special drive to work allowances anymore. My 16 year old pays $1,800/yr for a Mustang Convertible. For her it's 2 points and and she gets a 1 year suspension so 4 points is impossible. My brother in law has a couple of DUIs and he pays over $5,000 for just minimum liability coverage, not that he needs it since his last DUI.

Since you already have a coupe(clk), why not get a C coupe. Cheaper insurance and for the price savings youu can get a pulley kit and chip to help out on the HP loss.

Or if you can afford it C32 C32 C32

Tommy, get a lawyer, RIGHT NOW. Never, ever just pay a ticket. Get a lawyer and try to get it plea bargained to something with and equivalent fine but now points. Here, a prosecutor will accept a deal for an excessive noise charge, depending on prior traffic violations. I didn't even have to go to court. I paid the lawyer $80 for his services.

Im from Florida, I have had 4 tickets in the last year, and I have no points on my drivers license, also you dont have to pay the ticket.

I got my last ticket last friday when I went to Walgreens to buy food, I gott 50 in a 30 ( I was actually going 43) but he gave me the ticket for 50 and told me to send it to a lawyer since hes not going to fight in court.

I saved a Gore/Lieberman sticker for my new c230, but I chickened out because I'm afraid that I'd get my car keyed here in Houston for it.

That's what was nice about living in New Orleans - there's safety in tree-hugger numbers - which is hard to do in the south.

Tipper alone almost made me want to vote for Nader, though. She's pure evil, and is as good-looking as Bay Buchanan.

Kingman - It's possible your premium may drop next year, after you leave that magic demographic of young men 18-25. Probably worth asking your agent, and maybe biting the bullet for a year

from my experience, of course is to go to traffic school (if available) and pay the price.

If there is no traffic school and I know i cannot fight and win, then call in to ask for an extension, usually you get 30-90 days extension just by calling the court. Then I will show up at court. Usually the first thing the judge will offer is discount. Mostly like knock 30-50% off the original fine amount. At least save some money on the fine if you are going to pay more on insurance.

When I drove across the country to move out here in '99, I had car trouble in Utah, took that Clinton/Gore sticker off before taking the car in.

C32 AMG, Volvo S80T6
thats a big jump

Rates are different all over the country and whether someone pays 10 grand in Osh Kosh or 1500 in Chattanooga, the people in both respective places will feel a 50% change. That change of 3200 to 5 grand is amazing. I too live in NJ now and had a Volvo S80 T6 which was 1200/yr.. when I got the C32 it went to about 1400/yr. It was very new and they really didnt have a classification for it so they benchmarked the C320 and adjusted for the higher performance and price of the vehicle. Still not a big increase considering the car is 12 grand more and about 80 more ponies.

Woah, did you get a badly assembled C32 engine?

Most have 130 HP more than a C 320

'Beaurocratic' BS? Sure you didn't get caught speeding, racing, or other illegal activity? Last time I checked there are no point increases for increased government paperwork/processes.
