C180 estate blower not working

I've googled as much as I can and I am at a point now where I know I have found an issue that is breaking the fan but I don't know if its the final solution.

Anyway, I discovered that there is a fuse box in the dash on the drivers side and thats where the fuse for the fan sits. Popped off the cover and the fuse and mount was a charred mess. I managed to get the fuse out but it left half a leg in there and I think its buggered.

I took some pictures and looked at it so I could perhaps buy a replacement holder and realised that it didn't look like it was quite right. I think someone had already bypassed it and moved the fuse outside the standard mount then zip tied that to the unit. I then realised that fuse was also blown. We've owned the car for about a year and a half so it hasn't been broken in that time so I assume there isn't an issue that would cause any fix I make to blow straight away but thats probably wishful thinking.

Can I simply replace the whole unit with this

This is a picture of what it currently looks like minus the 2 40amp fuses that were charred messes.

Red areas are where the 40amp fuses were

Yikes, I see it's sold. Did you buy it?
I wouldn't have bought that one, they cut all the wires, and even worse they cut them so very short, if you wanted to splice them. Any decent junkyard could get you that part.
I do like the fact that the fuse chart is still included, but wow did they bung the removal.
Anyway, which fan are we talking about? The AC or the engine?
Yeah, my AC fuse melted down once.
Replaced it and crossing my fingers, still working several years later. Seems to be a common complaint, but definitely NOT 40 amps. Way to much. I vaguely recall that it was originally a 20A but then it was bumped up to 25A by Mercedes in a service bulletin, but that's without checking.

Cheers for the reply, it was me that bought it but I didn't see many of these knocking around and I got it for £12 in the end so I thought I'd give it a punt. I know very little about these things so I assumed there would be a sensible way of replacing the block without having to splice wires. Turns out the wires do not want to come out of their connectors at all.

The fan is the AC/Heater fan, not the engine fan.

You can see they have bypassed it once before but that too eventually blew.

Any thoughts on the best route to fix it? Take it to a garage and pay the money?

Well I think I would get a look at what that part looks like without the wires cut. Is there a connector somewhere Downstream, or is it necessary to follow the wires all the way back to their destinations to replace that thing? should be a part number on there go ahead and Google it.
then you can decide if you would even want to attempt to replace it yourself. you might have to disassemble the dash. is that where the fuse for the fan is located I forget? all that being said it's just a matter of knowing what to take apart first and how to disconnect things. It may be a Mercedes but it's still just held together with bolts,
though there always seems to be a trick here or there. there are some threads from people who repaired the flaps in the AC system which are located on the floor below the dash and require tearing the whole damn thing apart. I recall a notable thread which had photos of every step of the way if you can find it it's on this forum or benzwbenzworld.org. I saw a guy at the shop doing it one day and he said it was I forget 8 or 16 hours of Labor. So yeah you could pay the shop to do it but be prepared to open your checkbook. And then of course the real question is why is the fuse blowing? perhaps the fan needs to be replaced and if you're going to tear the whole thing apart make sure you get the flaps and Motors while you're in there. yesterday mine was blowing cold air out of the left side and hot air out of the right side even though it was set to AC. it's been blowing air out on the floor no matter what I do for a long time and I thought that another motor or flap was broken but after I fussed with the temperature control it finally fixed itself. that would have been a real Pia.

To be honest its 14 years old, we didn't really pay much for it when we got it over a year and a half ago so we aren't expecting it to last forever. The front suspension is knocking a lot which will cost us a good amount to fix so if this looks like costing a lot of money we will probably bin the thing. Shame really as its a good car and travelling abroad in it is great.
